Christine Kotarakos Poncelet is heading the Business Development Unit (BDU), and oversees the strategic development and day-to-day duties of the BDU. Her mission is about developing AEIDL’s business, by securing contracts and developing new partnerships, but also about anticipating moves on the market, broadening the scope of activities, and increasing their variety. Her professional experience spans over three decades in the private sector and the European Commission.
After spending seven years in international payment systems as market research manager, she moved on to heading the Standard Eurobarometer team with INRA ECO and then the European Opinion Research Group. In 2003, she set up her own consultancy, Capital Research, offering advice in international communication, environmental management and market research. From 2008 until 2011, she contributed to the work of DG Employment in the demography and social inclusion units. There, she was a member of the Task Force implementing the European Year against Poverty and Social Exclusion. Before joining AEIDL, she worked as Business Development Director with Emakina EU.
Christine is a true European with roots in Belgium, France, Scotland, Greece and even Turkey. She studied journalism and communication at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), psychology at the University of Mons-Hainaut (UMH), and Environmental decision-making at the Open University (OU). Christine is working on a PhD on Solutions Journalism at the ULB, supervised by the Dean of the Faculty of Letters, Translation and Communication, Dr. Heinderyckx.
Christine is a founding member of the Belgian Chapter of the Internet Society, an international organisation whose aim is to have an open, globally connected, secure, trustworthy Internet for everyone. She is also a member of the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA) and a member of the Urban EU-China Advisory Board.
